Twitter Action Plan: tips for your businessSmall Business Advice 28 May 2014
In recent years, Twitter has become an increasingly significant tool for businesses, with official accounts from huge corporations and small firms alike regularly interacting with consumers and many even sharing a joke or two with users.
There are now more than 230 million active users of the social media site each month and it is the ideal platform to share original content, drive web traffic and engage with an audience.
This has been highlighted in a new infographic from Sprout Social, which shows 86 per cent of users said they feel more connected to a business after following them on Twitter and 72 per cent revealed they are more likely to make a purchase after following.
With these statistics demonstrating the potential sales benefits for retailers effectively utilising the social media site, the infographic provides eight steps that firms should follow in order to make sure they are getting the most out of Twitter.
Quite obviously, the first step is to set up an account. Make sure you claim a relevant username for your business, create a profile with an effective description and link to your website, add a photo and begin to establish your voice on the site.
It is then important to ensure your team is structured effectively, with responsibilities and roles clearly defined and the information available to those responsible enabling them to respond to customer queries in a timely and effective manner.
Twitter is so popular, it is easy to assume you know exactly how it works and how best to use it. However, the infographic highlights a number of key points that will help to ensure your tweets are as effective as possible.
Messages should be delivered in a consistent voice, so it may be necessary to establish some guidelines for your business, to be followed by whoever is operating the account. Calls to action should be included where appropriate, while the use of @ mentions, hashtags, images and video will all help to drive engagement.
Of course, it is important to set clear goals for what you want to achieve and ensure you are measuring your successes as necessary.
